24 Jan The Arc of the St. Johns Loses a Valued Team Member
Kathy Jackson, The Arc’s executive director, has announced the passing of Dave Vinson, the agency’s director of Residential Services.
Dave passed away on January 12, 2023 after a brief stay at Baptist Hospital.
Since Dave’s addition to the staff on September 11, 2001, eight new group homes have been opened to accommodate the growth of the agency’s client population. Dave also added an In-Home Support model for individuals who could benefit from independent living.
As an exceptional provider of intensive behavioral services, Dave made sure that several group homes included accommodations for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and measured behavior issues.
Dave was a highly respected professional in the field and was honored often for his achievements and service on behalf of the men and women with IDD. These awards and recognition included:
– Jacksonville Business Journal Healthcare Hero Award
– Professional of the Year by The Arc of Florida
– St. Johns County Legal Aid Pro Bono Award for equal justice for in poverty
– Certificate of Appreciation from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities
Kathy Jackson called Dave “a true and tireless advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His innovative and aggressive efforts helped make the prevailing system work better for these individuals.”
Dave Vinson will be missed.
